As I was preparing to open the aviation display rooms at the 'Portal of the Folded Wings' a while back, I heard a beautiful voice singing from within. A lovely young woman was singing up into the dome. She was trying to 'sing' a dove out of the dome so he could be free. That's how I met Emily Richards and some of her family, and I'm very happy that I had the opportunity. She has a wonderful voice, the lyrics are touching and the music is haunting yet life affirming. Please take a look and a listen to her music. |

The Valhalla Memorial Park entrance portal opened in 1924. Local radio station KELW (owned by real estate developer Earl White) broadcast orchestra music and singing from within the structure on a regular basis. When United Airport (now Bob Hope) opened in 1930, aircraft noise ended that tradition. 75 years later, music returns to the portal when Emily Richards sings there.
*note: It says 'rural' radio. Can you believe that in Burbank? |
