The Portal was dedicated to "the honored dead of American aviation" on Dec. 17th, 1953, on the 50th anniversary of the Wright brothers flight and it is on the National Registry of Historic Places. The Portal contains the remains of over a dozen pioneers of aviation including Charlie Taylor, the Wright brothers mechanic and the man who made the engine that powered that First Flight. The 'Portal Of The Folded Wings-Shrine To Aviation' has been called "the Kittyhawk of the West" and "the Arlington of the air'. |
